Vera Christine (Shaw) Coffman was born on December 3, 1930, in Brooken, Oklahoma. She departed this life on March 12, 2020, at the age of 89. She was the 6th child of Charley Shaw and Minnie Boyd Shaw. Chris attended school in Brooken and was valedictorian of her eighth-grade class. She married Ralph Don Coffman on March 24, 1952, and became a devoted wife and mother as her loving husband, Ralph, a United States Marine Corps veteran, served our country in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. They were stationed in several places including Oklahoma, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, California Texas and Hawaii. When Ralph retired from military service they settled in Jenks, Oklahoma with their three daughters.
Chris was saved at Brooken Church as a young girl and loved the Lord all her days. She taught her girls the Bible and encouraged them, by example, to teach His word in Sunday School and Children’s Church. She leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to the Lord and to her family who will cherish her memory, as well as her crafts, her hand-stitched quilts, her scenic paintings, and her surprise Kleenex tissues tucked away for us to find.
Chris was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; parents Charley and Minnie Shaw; brothers Oscar, Yearl, Allen, Herman, Charles (Toppy) and Chuck; and sister, Freda Chuning. She is survived by sisters Gladys Bender and Shirley Bender, both of Tulsa; three daughters, Kathryn Scribner of Broken Arrow, Paula Rowland and husband Greg of Tulsa, and Rebecca Rayon and husband Trent of Keifer; grandchildren Brandon Rowland and wife Brooke of Tulsa, Ryan Chase of Warr Acres, Jason Rowland and wife Sara of Fernindina Beach, Florida, Erin Matthews and husband Jonathan of Keifer, Chelsea Andrews and husband Brian of Owasso, and Jordan Scribner of Oklahoma City; twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
