Newanna Gail (Cochran) Tiger, 54, passed away on February 22nd, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on April 8th, 1965 to Jesse Cochran and Frances Mae (Grigsby) Tiger in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Cochran; her mother, Frances Mae (Grigsby) Tiger; her stepfather and father-in-law, Mose Tiger; her grandmother, Lena Mae Grigsby, as well as her other grandparents; her sister, Dalana Sue “Sandy” Cochran; her niece, Desiree Smith; and great-niece Teairra Smith.
Newanna married the love of her life, Leland Mose Tiger, Sr., on July 22nd, 1990. They made their home in Tulsa, where they enjoyed their outings with family. She loved traveling with her husband state to state for vacations and Pow Wows. In her working life, she proudly worked at the Gatesway Foundation for almost 17 years as a CNA. She enjoyed spending her free time at home watching television, especially soap operas and football games, and was a fan of both the Dallas Cowboys and the OU Sooners. She could often be found listening to the music of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a few other boy bands. She also maintained collections of memorabilia relating to Minnie and Mickey Mouse, as well as Indian dolls.
She is survived by her husband, Leland Mose Tiger, Sr., of the home; three daughters, LaWanda Kay Diaz and husband Raymond of Sanger, California, Shana Marie Flores and husband Edwin of Tulsa, and Keshia Michelle Tiger of Tulsa; one son, Leland Mose Tiger, Jr., of Tulsa; ten grandchildren, Nacoma Tiger “Baby Cakes”, Sophia Marie Tiger “Pia Poo”, Edwin Flores “Puppy”, Leland Mose Tiger III “Tre Baby”, Braxton Anthony Tiger “B-Town”, Izac Wayne Tiger “Darn Diggy”, James Diaz, Evelyn Sue Diaz, Julien Tiger “JuJu”, and Jason Nashoba Tiger “Paco Taco”; and four sisters, Lewanna Russell and partner Bobby Mouse of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Diana Smith and husband Larry, of Wichita, Kansas, Dawanna Lynn Keller and husband Dwight, of Tulsa, and Beronica K. Cochran of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; and best friend Marla Wresche and husband Ron of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
A visitation will held Friday, February 28, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heath-Griffith Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Living Hope Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Pastor Bo Holland and Pastor Don Tiger officiating. Burial will follow in Ketcher Cemetery in Stilwell, Oklahoma.
