Joyce Thames, a long-time resident of the Tulsa area and the most incredible and amazing mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly June 27, 2019.
Born March 1, 1951 in Dallas, Texas as the youngest of 4 daughters, Joyce graduated from Forest Park High School in Beaumont, Texas. She continued her education for several years at Baylor University studying music and math.
Joyce worked in the banking industry for many years and retired in 2014 from Stillwater National Bank in Tulsa and moved to Checotah, Oklahoma to enjoy retirement on Lake Eufaula.
She loved reading, camping with her sons, and spending as much time as possible with her grandson Andrew Thames.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Kevin Thames of Sand Springs and Darren and spouse Chanda Thames of Berryhill, their children Andrew Thames, Tyler and Dylan Dodgin; sister Barbara Lutz of Waxahachie, Texas; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Evelyn Blevins; sisters Sharon Sloane and Karen Robinson.
Services will be held Tuesday, 10am, July 2 at View Acres Baptist Church. There will be a graveside gathering at Floral Haven Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home.
