James Leroy Oberg passed from this life on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born to Pearl Oberg (Johnson) and William James Oberg on July 10, 1930.
Leroy married Norma Jean Womack, who preceded him in death in 1995. He married Mable Mae Roach Oberg on Valentine's Day in 2007, and she was the true love of his life. The happiest days of his life were spent with Mable. They both loved driving vacations, and went "Honeymoonin" from coast to coast. They particularly enjoyed country roads, and had a couple of harrowing experiences on some of their drives. Leroy thanked God every day for sending Mable to him.
Leroy left school at age 14, and his first job was working with his brother Harvey moving houses. He followed harvests up into Colorado, and because of his strong work ethic he was offered not only room and board but funding for a college education to stay on with one family in Colorado. That temptation was strong, but his desire to return to Pearl and Harvey brought him back to Tulsa. He went into the Navy, and served in the Seabees in Guam. He was a Master Carpenter, and did beautiful carpentry, cabinetry and furniture. He lived his adult life in Collinsville.
Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Mae Oberg, mother Pearl Johnson, his wife Norma Jean Oberg, his son, Jerry Allen Oberg, and stepson Terry Gene Womack.
He is survived by his brother Harvey Oberg and his wife Verla, his son Otis Holt and his wife Lorin Leith, his daughter Debbie Provolt and her husband Monte, step daughters Linda Daniels, Nancy Roach and her husband Ed Phillips, Teresa Robey and her husband Robert and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at Skiatook Free Will Baptist Church at 11 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home and an online guestbook is available by visiting www.heathgriffithfuneralhome.com.
