Helen Nadine Wickham, age 90, passed away on December 20, 2019 at St John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.
Helen was born on January 29, 1929 to Melvin Blakemore and Ora Cates Blakemore in Tulsa. She attended school in Tulsa, graduating from Will Rogers High School in 1946. After high school, she attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater OK.
In 1947, Helen moved to Nowata, OK where her parents opened an Oklahoma Tire & Supply store. During this time, she worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK.
Helen married Lowell Wickham on September 4, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church in Nowata. She and Lowell then moved to Stillwater so Lowell could finish his bachelor degree in Animal Husbandry. After Lowell’s graduation, the couple moved to Iola, KS where Lowell was the Allen County 4-H Club Agent. Three years later, they moved to Eldorado, KS. They spent one year in Monmouth, IL and six years in Crawfordsville, IN after Lowell became the District Manager for DeKalb Seed Company in 1955. While in Crawfordsville, Helen was a Welcome Wagon Hostess.
In 1962, the couple moved back to Nowata when her father became ill. They took over the operation of the Nowata OTASCO store from her parents until the store closed in January 1985. After closing the store, Helen worked for the Hays House as a teacher. In July 1989, she retired from the Hays House, but continued to work there part time.
Helen belonged to several clubs and organizations including the First Presbyterian Church, Nowata Country Club, Nowata Chamber of Commerce, La Kee Kon, Youth Guiders and Psi Iota Xi.
Many happy times were spent with their couples dinner bridge group in Nowata. Helen and Lowell also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico. They spent several winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and two summers in Yellowstone National Park.
Helen is survived by her daughters Diane Burns and husband John of Cleveland, OK, Leann Bailey and husband Randy of Terlton, OK, and Amy Zimmer of Tulsa, OK. Grandsons Jeff Burns of Dayton, TX, Brant Tevebaugh and wife Natasha of Terlton, OK, Colin Tevebaugh of Sand Springs, OK, Aaron Zimmer of Tulsa, OK, and Reese DeElena of Round Rock, TX. Great grandchildren include Ashlie Payne, Justin Scott, Sarah Hudelson, Jeffrey Burns, and Josh Burns all of Texas, Chael Zimmer of Tulsa, as well as Everlee Tevebaugh who will be arriving in February.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Ora Blakemore and husband Lowell Wickham.
