Gay Lafern Henson was born September 5, 1929 in Rocky, Oklahoma the daughter of Paul and Hetta Anna Ellen (Tirey) Wilburn. She passed from this life on Friday, March 16, 2018 in Catoosa, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 11 days.
Gay graduated High School in Shawnee and later attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she met her husband, Donald G. Henson. She and Donald married in Shawnee in 1948 and moved to West Tulsa in 1955. Donald preceded her in death in 2010 and in 2012 she moved to Claremore. She was living at the Rolling Hills Nursing Center in Catoosa at the time of her death.
Gay was a retired interior decorator for JC Penney’s where she had worked for 31 years. She loved to paint, read, work puzzles, and host slumber parties, or as she referred to them “La-tee-da” parties, with her granddaughters. Gay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her survivors include children, Ann Henson and wife, Christine Schessler of Wheeling, WV, Paul Henson and wife, Kelly of Tulsa, Mike Henson and wife, Rose of Tulsa and Doug Henson and wife, Anta of Claremore; sister, Joy Dillon of Sugarland, TX; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and 4 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by both her parents; and sons, Robert and David Henson.
Viewing for Gay is scheduled for Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 1pm to 5pm.
A funeral service will be held 10am, Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3640 S. New Haven, Tulsa. Interment will follow at 1pm in Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home and an online guest book is available by visiting
