Nelda Jane Wainwright was born Saturday, August 27, 1938 in Tulsa the daughter of Eugene and Daisy (Cozine) Fitzgerald. She passed from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in Tulsa at the age of 80 years.

Nelda was a lifelong Tulsa resident and graduate of Daniel Webster High School. After high school she attended and graduated from Northeaster State University in Tahlequah with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a retired instrumental music teacher for Tulsa Public Schools and worked most of her years at Clinton Middle School. Nelda was a member of the Tulsa Teachers Classroom Association and Oklahoma Education Association. She loved music, band and her students. She enjoyed camping and was of the Baptist faith.

Her survivors include her husband of 35 years, Bobby Wainwright of Tulsa; daughter, Su An Storrs and husband, Greg of Sperry; brother, Bob Fitzgerald and wife, Walsie of Tulsa; twin granddaughters, Ashley Carlson and husband, Rob of Salina, Kansas and Allison Barnes and husband, Clint of Okmulgee; great grandson, Easton Barnes of Okmulgee and nephews, Shawn Fitzgerald and Mike Fitzgerald and wife, Glenda all of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Visitation for Nelda will be held 8am – 8pm on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

A funeral service is scheduled for 12pm on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Heath-Griffith Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith and an online guestbook is available by visiting

    I remember fondly being involved in Nelda's life. My good friends were in band, which of course included her daughter Su An. Staying involved with Su An over the years, kept me involved with Nelda as well. She cared deeply for her students.
