Leona (Wickson) Tiger

June 10, 1946 ~ February 13, 2020 (age 73)

Obituary

Leona Tiger, 73, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away on February 13th, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on June 10th, 1946 to Jesse, Sr. and Rosa (Proctor) Wickson in Kenwood, Oklahoma. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ernest Ray, Tiger, Sr., on September 7th, 1966, in Mayes County, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Raymond Wickson, Sr.; one and both her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Leona was devoted to her family, and she adored her status as a proud grandmother. She had a strong faith and was an active member of her church community. When at home, she could often be found watching Christian television programs and enjoying the company of her cats. She was known for her crafting, including sewing, beading and jewelry-making. When out of the house, she loved going for drives, dining out, and going shopping, whether it be at a thrift store or searching for a nice pair of shoes. In her younger days, she loved to attend pow-wows and other Native American events which connected her to her Indian heritage.  She was both Cherokee and Choctaw, but also held the Muscogee (Creek) people in her heart with much love and regard because of her husband and children.

She is survived by her son, Ernest Ray Tiger, Jr (and Ellen), of Jenks, Oklahoma; her daughters, Carmen Tiger and Yonne Tiger (and companion, Matt Lahren); her brother, Jesse Wickson, Jr.; her sister, Pearl Drywater; her grandchildren, Ernest Tiger, III, Kyle Willson, Ashley May, and Jaden Hastey; her great-grandchildren, Sawyer May and August Willson; and great-grandchildren-to-be Remi Willson, Lincoln May, and Tiger Roth. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive her.
