Mary Jane Freeman Ferguson
December 24, 1944  -  October 26, 2017


Mary has been a resident of Tulsa for the last 60 years. She was the first black woman to work at the Oklahoma State Capitol Building where she worked in the cafeteria. From 1974 to 1976, Mary was a bus driver for Tulsa Public Schools. Mary opened a daycare, Wee World Daycare Center in 1975 and also owned a trucking company. She loved children, shopping, traveling, floral arranging, and cake decorating.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, William Owens. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas Ferguson, of Tulsa; her daughter, Tonia Renae Colbert, of Tulsa; two sons, Charles Lindsey and wife, Pocahontas, and Antwan Burton – all of Tulsa; a brother, Otis John Gulley, II and wife, Veda, of Missouri, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous extended relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home, (918) 446-6633.
