William Bates Powell was born June 29, 1948 in Tulsa the son of Waburn Vernon and Wanda Maxine (Lawrence) Powell. He passed from this life on Monday, August 29, 2017 in Tulsa at the age of 69 years.

William graduated from Central High School in 1966. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on June 16, 1969. He was a retired City of Tulsa welder and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. William loved riding motorcycles, collecting guns and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Crosstown Church of Christ.

His survivors include wife, Stella ''Marie'' Powell of Tulsa; daughter, Amanda Nicole Edgar and fiance' Jason Carothers of Broken Arrow; son, Brandon Derek Powell of Tulsa; step-sons, Justin Ray Tolbert and wife, Mandy of Sand Springs and Terry Leon Tolbert and wife, Heather of Sapulpa; father, Waburn Vernon Powell of Tulsa; sister, Rhonda Gail O'Brien and husband, Pat of Broken Arrow; brother, Steve Allen Powell and wife, Sherry of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation for William will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 5pm to 8:30 pm.

A funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 am, Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Crosstown Church of Christ, 3400 E. Admiral Pl. And a graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 12:00 pm, Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson.
