Opal Bernice Carlton was born February 15, 1913 in Beecher City, Illinois the daughter of James Franklin and Alpha McHulda (Hervey) Sloan. She passed from this life, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Tulsa at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Opal was the former owner and floral designer of Carlton’s Carbondale Florist. She was a longtime member of the Carbondale Assembly of God Church and a past member of The Tulsa Garden Club. She was a volunteer with the Hillcrest Auxillary for over 24 years and she loved travelling; gardening and floral arranging, and when Richard was young she loved being involved in his Boy Scouts and the PTA at his school.
Opal married Chester Coleman Carlton on September 28, 1941 and together they raised their son, Richard. Chester preceded her in death on November 1, 1995 after 54 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by both her parents; brother, Harold Sloan; sister, Helen Sloan and great grandchildren, Brittain Curtis and Tori White.
Her survivors include her son, Richard Carlton and wife, Karisa of Tulsa; granddaughters, Dawn White of Tulsa and Krista Scheulen and husband, Jamie Curtis of Catoosa; grandson, Christian Lobaugh and wife, Ingrid of Tulsa; great grandchildren, Katie, Zac, Cole, Callie, Carley, Rachel and Anna; great great grandchildren, Ace and Bella; niece, Carole Witmer and husband, Mark, great niece, Carrie Hefton and husband, Nolan; great great niece, Joanna Hefton; and great great nephew, Jessie Hefton.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am, Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Carbondale Assembly of God Church, 2135 West 51st St. Rev. Phil Taylor will be officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home.
